Ninian Edwards' Life

1775 Born March 17, in Montgomery County Maryland. 1794 Went to Kentucky to invest in land. 1796 Represented Nelson County in Kentucky Legislature.
1802 Appointed major in Kentucky Militia. 1803 Circut Court Judge.  Married Elvira Lane of Montgomery County Maryland. 1804 Elected Presidential Elector.   Congressional candidate, but declined before election.
1806 Fourth Judge of the Court of Appeals. 1808 Cheif Justice of Kentucky. 1809 Edwards was appointed Territorial Governor on April 24 and was seated as Governor in Kaskaskia on June 11.
1818 Left Kaskaskia and settled in Edwardsville, Illinois.  He was elected U.S. Senator and served from 1818 until 1824. 1824 Appointed Minister to Mexico by President Monroe but immediately resigned to answer attacks on his integrity. 1824 Fire destroyed the Ninian Edwards home in upper Edwardsville. The family relocated to St. Clair County.
1826 Served as Governor of  State of Illinois, 1826-1830. 1833 Died July 20 at Belleville succuming to cholera.
