A variety of programs and events will be showcased in and around the restored home: seminars; experimental programs dealing with the arts and crafts of the day; discussions dealing with the political and social issues of the day; presentations dealing with major figures (i.e. Ninian Edwards, Benjamin Stephenson, Edward Coles); musical events; and cooking demonstrations.

Lecture Series

Frontier Edwardsville , January 13, 1-2:30pm

Stephenson Family Genealogy , January 20, 1-2:30pm

Federal Architecture , January 27, 1-2:30pm
Discover Edwardsville during this three part lecture series focusing on the birth of the town, one of its founding families, and the beautiful architecture of the Federal Period. Tickets per lecture are $6.50 each or purchase an Advance Series ticket for $15 (all three lectures).

Valentine Dinner , February 9 & 10, 6-9 pm $75 per person
Experience the romance of an 1820 candlelight dinner in the dinning room of the historic Stephenson House. Guests will be treated to live period music, a sumptuous six course dinner, private or group seating and authentically dress serving staff. Seating is limited. Reservations required .


Hearth Cooking for Parent & Child , March 3, 11am-2pm, $15 per person

Basket Making Workshop , April 14, 10:00 a.m.
This award winning mother-daughter team has been weaving together for 8 years. They can be found at numerous craft shows and at the Goshen Market every Saturday (summer months) in Edwardsville. They are both teachers (Yvette is with Continuing Education at Lewis & Clark and Jenece is retired Edwardsville public schools.

1820 Children's Day , May 5, 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. General Admission
Bring your child to Stephenson House for fun filled day like those of yesteryear. 19th Century toys, games and activities will be available for children to learn about, play and create. All children must be accompanied by a paying adult.

Ben's Brunch & Tour , June 17, 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Price to be announced
Bring Dad to the Stephenson House for brunch on the lawn. Enjoy period food and atmosphere at one of Edwardsville's oldest homes. Historical interpreters will be on hand to guide guests through the restored house and grounds. Seating is limited. Reservations required.

Muster of Col. Stephenson's Militia , September 15 &16 General Admission
Citizen soldiers gather at the House to take up arms in defense of their homes. Visitors will view a militia encampment, soldiers daily routine and preparations for the expedition north led by Col. Stephenson during the War of 1812.

Stephenson House 50/50 Auction , October

Old Fashioned Soap Making Workshop , November 10 & 11 $10 per person
Learn to make soap in the 1820 kitchen the way Great Grandma use to make it. Choose which session works best with your schedule and bring a friend. Session I - Saturday,10-12 p.m. Session II - Saturday, 2-4 p.m. Session III - Sunday, 1 –3 p.m. Limited to four students per session. Adults Only. Reservations Required.

Christmas Candlelight Dinner , December 7 & 8 $75 per person
Come experience the ambiance of a 19th century candlelight dinner while Stephenson House is decked out in all of its Christmas glory. Enjoy the live music and eat food from historic recipes. Seating is Limited. Reservations Required.
