The Benjamin Stephenson House

It is one of only a handful of homes in Illinois built in the first quarter of  the 19th Century still remaining.

"To be ignorant of what happened before we were born is to be ever a child - for to reject the significance of our past is to deny ourselves the advantage of the knowledge and experience of all who have preceeded us."- Illinois Gov. Richard B. Ogilvie, 1970

"Benjamin Stephenson is unusual among historic personalities in that his activities had significant effects on the local, state and national levels.  His house in Edwardsville is very important..." - William L. Wheeler
